Small PCB for a complete Geiger Counter with Flyport

Geiger Counters are actually quite simple circuits. But what if you want to store the readings on a computer?! It's not a problem, because there are devices for this purpose.. but usually are very expensive! There is a very simple and inexpensive solution: Flyport embedded wifi module!

Vohburger signal us a new project with Flyport: he built a small PCB for a complete Geiger Counter, using Flyport. A Flyback Converter followed by a Diode Cascade Voltage Doubler creates 400 Volts DC to power a SBM20 Geiger Counter Tube. A small transistor then shapes the Impulse from the Tube, the Impulse is counted on the IN1 Pin with the using of a timer with external input. The results of the couter are managed by the using of also the RTCC internal module, and presented on both the webserver and the serial port.

Warning: HIGH VOLTAGES used in this project could be VERY DANGEROUS! Please pay particular attention when exerimenting with this kind of circuits!!
